Aspire North Development Worker(Maternity Cover)

ASPIRENorth delivers the Schools for Higher Education Programme (SHEP) as a part of the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council (SFC) funded National Schools Programme. It works with young people in secondary schools to (a) raise awareness of post-school education opportunities and (b) raise aspirations to participate in these opportunities.  The main focus of activity is on pupils in those secondary schools with the lowest rate of progression into higher education.  Additionally, the programme works where appropriate with teachers, parents, carers and relevant community groups.  The programme covers the whole of the North of Scotland.  A vacancy has arisen for a Development Worker (maternity cover) to support the work of the ASPIRENorth Grampian office as a part of the Schools for Higher Education Programme.

As Development Worker you will help to develop and deliver a range of exciting activities designed to inspire young people and support their transition to higher education.  Working as part of a small team, you will engage with pupils both in workshop groups and individually to provide a tailored programme that will bridge the gap between school and higher education.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you should have experience of working with young people and developing and delivering resources and materials, ideally within a widening access context. An understanding of barriers facing young people in accessing higher education is required, as is the ability to work on your own and within a team.

This post is a maternity leave cover based within the ASPIRENorth team in Aberdeen available for up to five months..

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 scale, £32,546 - £36,130 per annum  with placement according to qualifications and experience.
